Room Parent Information

Room Parents

This document goes over the policies and requirements of room parents. Room parents are responsible for helping with coordinating class parties and helping homeroom teachers with donations or volunteers  (such as making copies). Administration chooses the class party dates, time,  and requirements while the PTO helps coordinate party activities and volunteers.

All LCS families are provisional PTO members. In order to be a room parent, a person must be an active PTO member by filling out the Family Membership form.

Elementary

In addition to checking on homeroom teachers once a month for classroom needs or project help Elementary room parents will have 3 class parties during the school year. Party dates and times are listed below. Room parents are responsible for planning all parties and sending out communication about party needs to parents. If you are unable to plan a party you must find another parent within the homeroom willing to plan it for you. More than one room parent per homeroom is allowed. If someone else other than you is planning a party please let me know so I can make sure they receive the email reminders and are on the list to send out communications to parents.

Fall Party – October 26, 2018 from 1-2 pm
Winter Party – December 19, 2018 from 10-11 am *half day before winter break*
Spring Party – April 12, 2019 from 10-11am *half day before spring break*

The administrative and PTO requirements for class parties is listed below:

There must be an academic activity or craft that corresponds with the curriculum at the time of the party.
NO religious activities or themes (i.e. No Christmas trees,  Elves, Reindeer, Menorahs, Easter Bunny, Jack-o-lanterns, witches, ghosts, monsters, goblins, etc. )
Please note that students who check out prior to 11:30 am on a half day are considered ABSENT. You may want to advise parents that attend parties accordingly.
When sending out requests for party donations you may use the pre-approved class party form on the PTO website and have the homeroom teacher send it home with student. You may also use Sign Up Genius. If you use Sign Up Genius you can fill it out and email the link to Melissa Peterman at melissa.peterman@lincolncharter.org  and ask her to email the parents for your homeroom.  Only room parents will be allowed to send out notifications unless a substitute has been submitted.
ALL emails MUST contain “do not reply directly to this email and include their email address.”  They also MUST get any and all communication pre-approved by building administration. ANY communication that the school is sending out on behalf of grade parents and PTO must be sent to administration with at least 48 hours notice.
Any other communication to parents must be pre-approved by administration.

Middle School

Party dates and times are listed below. Room parents are responsible for planning all parties and sending out communication about party needs to parents. If you are unable to plan a party you must find another parent within the homeroom willing to plan it for you. More than one room parent per homeroom is allowed. If someone else other than you is planning a party please let me know so I can make sure they receive the email reminders and are on the list to send out communications to parents.

Middle School Pancake Breakfast – December 19, 2018 from 9-10 am  *half day before winter break*

Middle School Pancake breakfast is for the entire middle school. No activities occur during this time. It is created to allow students to mingle with their peers  and have fellowship. All Middle School room parents need to work together to obtain volunteers to help prepare breakfast. Donations may be asked of students to help cover the costs of the breakfast. All communication and donation amount must be approved by administration.

High School

There are no class parties for high school students, because high school students attend several college campus visits during the school year and are also done with school a week before elementary and middle school. However, there is still a need for a room parent coordinator to check in with the homeroom teacher once a month to see if they need any supplies donated or help with classroom projects.The room parent coordinator also helps collect donated items for the raffle baskets for Talon Walk Family Fun Night.

Any communication needs to homeroom parents can be sent to Jessica Kelly at jessica.kelly@lincolncharter.org. Only room parents will be allowed to send out notifications unless a substitute has been submitted.
